Locations — GS1 GLN Location Identity Registry

Every farm, abattoir, auction house, feedlot and border post participating in national traceability needs a verified GS1 Global Location Number. This registry tracks that identity from registration through amendment to retirement.

Overview

Identifier lifecycle

Found at Authority → Locations. KPI tiles show GLN coverage percentage, pending registrations, locations without a GLN, and active & verified count. A pill-legend filter covers every identifier type: GLN, PIC, Farm Number, Abattoir Code, Auction Code, Feedlot Code, Government Location, or Other.

Registering a location

Registering a location

Click Register, choose the identifier type, and enter the value — for a GLN, the form hints at the 13-digit modulo-10 check-digit format as you type. Click Verify on a pending row once you've confirmed it, moving it to Verified/Active.

Amending & retiring

Amending, verifying & retiring

Amend never edits a record in place. It retires the current row and creates a new one linked back to it, so the identifier's full history — including its prior value — stays on record rather than being overwritten.

Retire is irreversible — use it only for an identifier that's genuinely done (a closed facility, a duplicate registration), not as a way to temporarily hide a row.

Geofencing

Geofencing & public verification

For a holding-linked GLN, a separate lightweight dialog assigns or clears a Traccar geofence — kept deliberately apart from Amend, since it's an operational tracking detail, not part of the identifier's own regulatory history. Every location also gets a Public Verification Link — a QR code and a copyable URL anyone can use to confirm the identifier is genuine, with a Regenerate action if the link needs to be reissued, and a Print Certificate button that generates a server-side PDF certificate.
