What this guide covers: creating a position, appointing someone to it, and the difference between a position's own lifecycle and who currently occupies it.
The registerThe register
Found at Authority Administration → Positions. Columns: Title, Type, Institution, Lifecycle, Staffing, Occupant, Responsibility count.
| Field | Values |
|---|---|
| Type | Provincial Director, State Veterinarian, Laboratory Veterinarian, Technician, Other |
| Lifecycle | Active, Suspended, Retired |
| Staffing | Vacant, Filled, Acting — always computed, never something you set directly |
Staffing state is a read-only reflection of whether someone is currently appointed — it can never be submitted as a field on a create or update request, only derived from actual occupancy records.
Appointing an occupantAppointing an occupant
Click Create Position to add a new post. To fill one, open it and click Appoint — pick an eligible officer (or link a veterinary contact), an occupancy type (permanent, acting, or temporary), whether they're the primary occupant, and effective dates. A preview step shows the impact before you confirm.
LifecycleSuspending, retiring & ending occupancy
Suspend / Reactivate / Retire act on the position itself — a reason is required except for reactivate. End Occupancy acts on the appointment instead, and needs both an effective-to date and a reason — this is what turns a Filled or Acting position back to Vacant.
