Animals

The animal identity registry — the richest page in LITS. Search and filter across your whole herd, act on many animals at once, and drill into any single animal's full profile.

Audience: owners, farm staff, vets Part of the LITS guide set

What this guide covers: finding animals in a large registry, acting on many at once, registering a new one, and everything inside a single animal's profile.

What it doesn't cover: the events that make up an animal's history in detail (see Events & Traceability) or recording one in the field (see Field Capture).

Overview

The KPI strip

Found at LITS → Animals. Ten clickable tiles sit above the registry — Total, Active, Quarantine, Withdrawal, Missing ID, Missing Location, FMD Due, Needs Review, Moved This Month, Sale-Ready — each one doubling as a quick filter into the table below it.

Search & filters

Search & the filter drawer

A single search box searches animals, holdings, camps and groups at once. For anything more specific, the filter drawer has around 25 fields — holding, camp, group, species, breed, sex, status, quarantine/withdrawal/FMD/treatment/movement/review status, identifier type and status, owner, custodian, age range, weight range, event and last-seen date ranges, and data-quality flags.

View modes

The five view modes

RegistryThe paginated data table — status bar, identifiers, species/breed, holding/camp/group, status chip, health-flag chips.
Camp BoardA card grid of camps with animal and quarantine counts per camp.
Group/HerdA table of groups with member counts.

Data QualityRegistry-wide data-quality issues, listed by severity.
Bulk actions

Bulk actions

Select rows in Registry view and a bulk action bar appears: Record Vaccination, Start Quarantine, Assign Group, Generate Report. Each opens a preview showing the affected count and any warnings before you confirm — nothing applies to the selection silently.

Registration

Registering a new animal

  1. Click New Animal.
  2. Set species and breed (from your Settings catalogue), sex, date of birth, colour, and holding.
  3. Optionally add an initial identifier — a tag type (RFID, visual tag, eartag, brand, microchip, tattoo, or other) and its value.
  4. Click Save.

What's not built yet

Two things on this page are visible but not functional yet. The profile drawer's Health tab currently shows "Health summary coming soon" — a placeholder, even though treatment and vaccination events are already being captured elsewhere. The Map view is a placeholder card too, and tells you to use Camp Board for the current operational location view instead. There's also a Scan toolbar button with no action wired up yet — don't expect it to do anything if you click it.
