Events & Traceability

Every birth, tag, movement, treatment and inspection is an event — never edited in place, only ever corrected, so the record an auditor or regulator sees is always the true history.

What this guide covers: the event ledger — what an event is, how corrections work, and attaching evidence. This is the desktop, list-oriented view of events.

What it doesn't cover: the mobile, type-specific capture form field staff actually use day to day — see Field Capture — or a supervisor's approve/reject workflow for events that need review — see Review Queue.

Overview

The events list

Found at LITS → Events. KPI tiles show total events, corrections, events with evidence attached, and unique event types in use. The list is filterable by animal, and supports deep-linking from other pages via an animalId query parameter — the Animals profile's Events tab uses exactly this link.

Creating an event

Click New Event and choose an event type — this list covers the common desktop cases (birth, tagging, retagging, group assignment, ownership change, custody change, movement in, movement out, inspection); the fuller set, including treatment, vaccination, FMD vaccination, weigh events and permit/quarantine events, is only reachable from the dedicated Field Capture page. Pick the animal, an occurred-at date and time, and add notes.

Corrections

Corrections, not edits

Events are never mutated in place. If something was captured wrong, you create a correction — a new record that links back to the original event and supersedes it for practical purposes, while the original stays in the ledger exactly as it was first recorded. This is what makes the traceability history trustworthy: nobody, including an admin, can quietly rewrite what happened.
Evidence

Attaching evidence

Any event can have evidence attached — a document you've already uploaded elsewhere, plus a note explaining what it shows. This is how a photo, a lab result, or a signed form gets tied to the specific event it supports.
